The scary season is almost here, and what better way to get into the spirit than to read a good horror manhwa? No matter if you want a scary story with gory horror or a story with just a hint of horror, manhwa has it all.
Without further ado, here are 10 scary manhwa you may want to check out.
1. Return Survival
Return Survival is a must-read for anyone who likes scary stories set after the end of the world. The world is turned into chaos by a zombie outbreak, and the main character, Yohan, has to try to stay alive in this horrible place.
But no matter how hard he tries, he fails and ends up dying. He is sent back in time six months before the zombie apocalypse, so his story is not over yet.
Return Survival is a retro manhwa that mixes horror and action just right. There are some scary parts, but you do not need steel nerves to enjoy it. Tapas can be used to read it.
2. All of Us Are Dead
Before it became a popular Netflix show, All of Us Are Dead was a scary manga.
In a high school that turns into a zombie outbreak, the story is about a group of students who must work together to stay alive in a world that is getting more and more dangerous. It is a scary, fast-paced ride that will make you feel everything.
3. Silent Moon
The story takes place on Jukmyo Island and is about Sung-Hoon. He wins cruise tickets for himself and his crush Soo-Jin. What seems like a harmless trip quickly turns into a nightmare when they are attacked by scary humanoid creatures that look like zombies.
These scary creatures eat their prey, taking on human traits and making their victims into even scarier monsters.
Through its 40 chapters, Silent Moon does a great job of creating a scary atmosphere. The art, coloring, and shading are all great, and the story is very scary. You can feel its horror through Tapas.
4. The Martial World’s Undead Apocalypse
The zombie virus goes back in time in The Martial World’s Undead Apocalypse. It has elements of both martial arts and zombie horror, which makes it a thrilling read.
Also, the Sigwi, who are the zombies in this manga, are not your average zombies. They can use martial arts, and some of the stronger ones can even heal themselves.
Chungsoo of the Hwasan Sect is at the center of the story. He gets into trouble easily and likes to do things his way.
But because of his behaviour, the sect’s valuable library was destroyed, and he is sent to live alone for three years. A short time after he gets out of jail, the Sigwi already rule the martial world.
5. Zombie X Slasher
They may have taken over the world in Zombie X Slasher, but there are scarier things out there than these walking dead. That is the case for Cheolsu at least.
Cheolsu is a simple person, you see. He only wants to own his own house, and he would really like one with a nice garden. The zombie apocalypse has unfortunately driven up the prices of homes by billions of dollars.
When there is a chance for him to make money by killing zombies, dishonest government officials work together to stop him. He just can not seem to catch a break.
Will Cheolsu ever be able to live a quiet life? Check out Zombie X Slasher on WEBTOON to find out.
6. Tales of the Unusual
Tales of the Unusual is an old favorite. This is an anthology series of different scary stories with supernatural or creepy twists.
There are enough mysteries, scares, and suspense in each short story to keep you on the edge of your seat. For that reason, reading this series all at once might be enough to get you in the mood for the Fall.
You can read all of Tales of the Unusual’s scary stories on WEBTOON.
7. Distant Sky
The world in Distant Sky is a nightmare after the end of the world, where the sun never comes up and the streets are full of dead people.
At the start of the story, a boy named Kang Haneul wakes up in the middle of a deserted, pitch-black city and has no idea how he got there.
He soon meets a survivor, but the mysteries of what happened are still not solved. They keep moving forward to find answers while also doing their best to stay alive.
One of the best things about Distant Sky is its atmosphere. The heavy darkness and eerie silence make for a mood that is both creepy and confusing. That being said, it is a great horror manhwa to read all at once. Use WEBTOON to do that.
8. Scroll if You Dare
For the same reason as Tales of the Unusual, Scroll if You Dare is a collection of short scary stories. This one, on the other hand, had more than twenty one-shots by different artists.
Also, the stories might not be suitable for people easily scared. It has some really gross art and some really scary jump scares. But it is a great book for people who like reading really scary things. Visit WEBTOON to see it.
9. Unknown Caller
The experience of Unknown Caller is short but scary. Even though there are only three episodes, each one is packed with enough scary and jumpy scenes to keep you up all night.
As well, it is not just any manhwa. You need to be able to use your device’s camera to experience what it does offer. As for what that access is for, you can think of something. You can read it on WEBTOON if you are still interested.
10. Spore
That is enough horror collections, so let us end the list with a creepy book with a horrible plot. Spore is the perfect game for that part.
It is about a normal high school student named Seungho Yun who finds himself in the middle of a scary invasion. When an unidentified flying object showed up in the sky, it brought swarms of dangerous monsters that looked like insects.
Seungho is trying to stay alive and find his missing family while the world is falling apart around him. The only thing that helps him is a strange voice in his head that gives him vague hints about the future.
Watch Seungho’s story in Spore, which you can read on WEBTOON.
