The Alaska Department of Revenue has started a program to help people get by financially in 2024. The program gives people up to $3,284 to help with the rising cost of living, especially the high cost of energy in the winter.
The Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) and the Energy Relief amount make up the $3,284 amount as a whole. Alaska’s PFD has been around for a long time and gives $2,634 to people every year. It is paid for by the state’s oil and other natural resource revenues.
The $650 Energy Relief Payment, on the other hand, is a one-time program meant to help people deal with higher heating costs in the winter.
All together, these payments provide a lot of money to help with both daily living costs and the problems caused by high energy bills.
Who is eligible for the payment?
Residents must meet certain requirements in order to be eligible for the total $3,284 payment. Those who want to apply must have a valid Social Security Number (SSN) and prove that they are legally living in Alaska.
Furthermore, the program is open to people aged 65 and up, as well as disabled adults aged 18 and up.
To keep the scheme honest, people who want to apply must not have a criminal record and pay their taxes on time. For example, this makes sure that the money goes to law-abiding people, with extra care given to the elderly and disabled.
Payment distribution dates
The last round of payments was sent out on October 3, 2024, to people who had confirmed their status by September 20, 2024.
People who lived in the area and met the requirements between September 21 and October 14 will get a second set of payments on October 24, 2024.
“The division will begin sending out the 2024 PFD applications that can be paid for in two installments.”
The official Alaska website says, “The FIRST payment will be sent on October 3, 2024, to eligible applicants who filed online and chose direct deposit as their payment method.”
“The SECOND payment will be sent to eligible applicants who filed on paper or chose a paper check as payment on October 24, 2024.” As long as applications are in a state that allows payments to be made, monthly payments will continue to be made.
