A 15-year-old boy was shot at a Bronx subway station Saturday night, in the latest instance of escalating violence involving Big Apple youth.
An NYPD spokesman said Sunday that the shooting happened on the mezzanine level of the station at River Avenue and West 167th Street around 10 p.m.
Police say the teen was hurt in the leg.
David Ayenengoye, 20, was arrested at the scene and charged with attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal use of a firearm.
There was no more information available right away about what happened.
The shooting was the most recent case of a crime involving or aimed at a minor.
A 14-year-old boy was stabbed during a fight with another teen on Thursday. The young victim is in stable condition at Brookdale University Hospital.
On Tuesday, another 14-year-old boy was stabbed on Staten Island. A 13-year-old is thought to have done it.
On Monday just before 8 p.m., a 16-year-old boy was shot in the left foot at East 176th Street and Webster Avenue in the Tremont neighborhood of The Bronx.
He was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital and was listed as being in stable condition. At the scene of the crime, a gun was found.
Police say another 16-year-old boy was shot in the leg around 12:15 a.m. Monday at Avenue D and Troy Avenue in Flatbush, Brooklyn.
Police and other sources say the boy ran home and his mother called 911. The teen was then rushed to Maimonides Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening.
