The mother of a pregnant teen who was killed in what cops thought was an accident later told them she had been a victim of domestic violence.
An “accidental” killing on the 500 block of South Eureka Avenue killed 16-year-old Carlie Frizzell on Wednesday night, according to the Columbus Despatch. Then a woman called and said she was the mother of the dead teen.
She called 911 and said she heard the killing was an accident. She also said she wanted to let the police know that Frizzell was pregnant and had been abused in the past. The woman said, “Her boyfriend knows how to use guns too.”
“I do not know how this could happen.” She went on, “Please tell them that he has a history of domestic violence.” “Please.”When the boyfriend called 911 for help, he said that a gun went off and Frizzell was shot in the stomach.
The boyfriend has not been named by police. “The gun shot off. The man said, “I do not know what happened.” During one part of the call, things got very tense, and the boyfriend could be heard yelling “please hurry” as the dispatchers tried to help him.
The cops called the shooting a negligent homicide in an incident report. At the scene, police found a pistol and a shell casing.
A statement from Sgt.Joe Albert of the Columbus Division of Police the morning after the shooting said that the first person who called 911 said the girl shot herself by mistake. However, later Thursday, police said they had a suspect in her death.
Thursday, police said they would not say who the suspect was until they talked to the prosecutor’s office about possible charges.
A fundraiser has been set up by Frizzell’s family to help pay for her funeral and take care of her kid. Someone said the teen was a “great mother” and that she already had a baby girl.
“This tragic event has broke all of our hearts while it was an accident it hasn’t made it any easier,” she wrote. “Evelyn, who loved her mommy so much, is now without her, and she is only two years old.” We have to get ready to bury her now that she is only 16 years old.
