A black mother with a fair-skinned daughter had to undergo a DNA test after doubters questioned whether the child was truly hers.
Mom-of-three Alex, whose husband Rob is white, had daughter Pudge Pudge, 2, through IVF.
The parents said they were “surprised” by how “different” Pudge Pudge looked, especially since their other two kids are darker.
Alex told Truly, “I was really shocked.” “She did not even have dark ears.” They were really, really white!
Alex said that she gets “a lot of negativity” from trolls online and real people because of the color of their skin.
Alex remembered that one time she was shopping with Pudge Pudge at the mall when a worker stopped her and told her “things did not look right.” The worker then threatened to call security on her.
It was Rob who took care of everything and basically told her to leave us alone, she said.
“I should be able to choose how I want to spend time with my kid!”
Alex said that she has even been criticized by black people for being in a relationship with someone of a different race.
She said, “I have seen people online who look like they are black say all sorts of things like I should not have that white man’s child.”
People have also said that Alex “rented” Pudge Pudge to be a “content baby” on social media.
In the end, she got a DNA test to show that Pudge Pudge was really her child.
She said, “We chose to do the DNA test because she was so white. We used IVF to get pregnant with her, and mistakes do happen.”
The couple has gotten a lot of support since telling their story, even though there have been some negative reactions and awkward moments.
