A Cumberland County man describes the night his girlfriend was shot while sleeping next to him in their Stedman home.
The sheriff’s office reported that Brittany Carmichael died the next day at Cape Fear Valley Hospital.
Carmichael’s boyfriend, William Dean, stated that he was still awake at 10 p.m., while Brittany slept next to him in bed.
“I went to go grab a cup right by my bed on the counter, and I turned all the way around and… it was people at my window,” he said.
He said he asked them to leave from the window, but he did not know who they were or why they were there.
“(When) One of them ran off after I rolled up the window and said that. What they did, though, was shoot at me, Dean said.
He said that broken window glass hit him in the eye.
“As soon as I was hit, I turned around and fell right on the ground,” he said.
You can see bullet holes in the back of the house and in the window. Dean said that he found his girlfriend shot near the hip on the right side. He tried to help her until police and EMS arrived.
“Yes, I told her it was not the end. You have already been shot because you are still alive. It is not the end.
You are good, baby. You are good. She thought I was real. Still, she told me not to leave her. Dean said, “The last thing she told me was do not leave her.”
In this case, the sheriff’s office is not giving out any specifics about what took place. Yet Dean wants to know more. He told her that he was going to ask her to marry him next week. Carmichael has a 13-year-old son who lives with his family.
“All I want is for my girl to be fair.” Being fair to my girl is all I want. Dean said, “Because I need to know what happened and why it happened.”
Anyone with information is being asked to call the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
