A family in the South Bay is saddened by the death of Erica Gamino, a 41-year-old mother of five. They think she was killed while on vacation in Mexico.
The mother, who was raised in San Jose and was separated, left for Tijuana with her boyfriend in early August. She had no idea that it would be the last time her family would see her.
When Erica’s ex-husband called her family to say that he had identified her badly decomposed body that had been found by the side of the road, the pain got worse.
He said that the cops told them she seemed to have been shot repeatedly. Police in Tijuana also said the man could be another victim.
The officials have not been talking to Erica’s brother, Albert Gamino, which made him angry. He said, “The police have not even really talked to us.” “They gave us the first police report, but it was not clear at all what was going on.”
Daniel Hoang, a cousin, said that family members have been to Mexico many times to find answers but have run into big problems each time.
“We still do not know what to do based on what the embassy told us,” he said. “All we want to do now is bring her back home to her kids and to us.”
In the same way that his cousin did, Albert was sceptical about the probe in Tijuana. “I do not think that problem will be solved down there.” The children of my sister and I have realised that all we want from Tijuana is to be brought home.
At the moment, Erica’s kids are staying with a family friend in the Bay Area while the rest of the family deals with this painful uncertainty.
Hoang said, “We do not want to keep trying to get in touch with Mexico all the time without getting any information.” “We have no ideas.”
The family has contacted the office of South Bay Congressman Ro Khanna. The congressman is now looking into the case to help the family and get more information.
