Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) is one of the programs that helps people with disabilities through Social Security. This help is for people who have worked and paid into Social Security for a long time but are now disabled and can not work.
When applying for the program, one of the main questions that people have is when the monthly payment will be made and how much money they will get as a benefit. Who should know the most up-to-date information on payment dates?
Payment schedule
Following the schedule put in place in May 1997, payments are made each month based on the beneficiary’s date of birth:
- Second Wednesday: If your birthday is between the 1st and 10th, you will receive your payment on the second Wednesday of each month
- Third Wednesday: If your birthday is between the 11th and 20th, you will receive your payment on the third Wednesday of each month.
- Fourth Wednesday: If your birthday is between the 21st and the 31st, you will receive your payment on the fourth Wednesday of each month.
People who started receiving payments before May 1997 continue to receive their disability benefits on the third day of each month.
What day will my December 2024 payment arrive?
We would only have the “fourth Wednesday” before Christmas in this case. This is how it would look:
- December 24: If your birthday falls after the 20th of your birth month, you will receive your Social Security payment on the fourth Tuesday in December (one day earlier than usual, due to the holiday).

What should I do if I don’t receive my payment?
Get in touch with your bank right away because the Christmas holidays are likely to cause service delays. If it is not the bank, call the Social Service Administration or the office that is closest to you. Do not forget to do this ahead of time to avoid problems around Christmas.
