Three men died tragically when their car plunged off an unfinished bridge into a river in India while following Google Maps directions.
Vivek, Amit, and an unidentified person were traveling from Gurugram to Bareilly to attend a wedding when they used Google Maps to find their way, according to Hindustan Times.
The app led them to a flyover that was still being built but had already fallen down in 2022 because of flooding. Without barricades or warning signs to show danger or a closure, the bridge was still not finished.
The car went into the Ram ganga River in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district on November 18. It fell 50 feet. The accident was found by locals the next morning.
A police officer said, “At about 9:30 a.m., we were told that a damaged car had been found in the Ram ganga river.” “Our team found a Wagon R that had fallen off the unfinished bridge.
They think it was a taxi.” The dead bodies were found and sent to a morgue for an autopsy. Vivek and Amit have been identified as two of the victims, and work is still being done to confirm the identity of the third victim.
In the meantime, the families of the victims have said that the local government was careless for not securing the site and have asked for a formal investigation.
The government then started an investigation, focusing on the bridge’s lack of proper signs and safety measures. Google sent its condolences and promised to work with the authorities in the area to solve the problem.
