There has been a nationwide recall of ground beef after several reports of illness linked to possible contamination.
Why Ground Beef Is Being Recalled
More than 75 tons, or 160 000 pounds, of ground beef that was shipped all over the U.S. is being called back. Fifteen people have already gotten sick from E. coli bacteria that are thought to have come from the beef, according to Newsweek.
The illness has a lot of unpleasant symptoms, but most people get better in about a week, according to the source. Small children and people whose immune systems are not strong enough might be sick for longer periods of time.
There was a problem. The Minnesota Department of Agriculture told the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service that some people got sick after eating the ground beef.
The USDA says it worked with the Minnesota group to get enough proof to show a link between the illness and the ground beef.
The beef was not just sold in Minnesota, which was a shame.
What Ground Beef Is Included In The Recall?
The USDA said in its notice of the recall that the tainted beef was traced back to Wolverine Packing Co. in Michigan.
Because of this, the USDA put out a 47-page list of labels for products that were recalled. The long list includes fresh foods with a “use by” date of 11/14/2024 and frozen foods with a production date of 10/22/2024.
The recall is “nationwide” because the products were sold all over the country. According to information released by the USDA, people should check their freezers for both frozen foods and fresh foods that were frozen to be used later.
The FDA is worried that some food might be in restaurant fridges or freezers, the USDA said in a statement. “Restaurants are urged not to serve these products.”
Products that are part of the recall need to be thrown away or taken back to where they were bought.
