An 84-year-old Texas man has been charged with first-degree murder for allegedly killing his roommate and her dog, according to authorities.
A news release from the Austin, Texas police department says they were called to a home in the University Hills area of the city on Monday afternoon about a dead body.
The Austin Police Department found a dead woman and a dog inside the house. The woman was later found to be 83-year-old Linda Mlsna, the police said.
It was a “very, very brutal attack,” according to CBS Austin, which is a CBS affiliate. Police say it is the 63rd murder in the city this year.
Homicide detectives were looking into Mlsna’s death when they found that her roommate was not there. CBS Austin said that Jack Moore was friends with Mlsna’s son and had stayed as a roommate when Mlsna’s son moved out.
Lupita Diaz, who lived across the street from the house, told CBS Austin that Mlsna was having problems with Moore as her roommate.
“It was probably like a month ago that she told me she did not feel comfortable with him around,” said Diaz.
CBS Austin reported that Moore was arrested by the APD’s Tactical Intelligence Unit and the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force on a warrant that had nothing to do with carjacking.
Investigators found that Moore had bought things with Mlsna’s credit cards after she died.
The APD said Moore told them in an interview that he killed Mlsna and her dog, took the credit cards, and was planning how to leave the country.
Moore was charged with murder in the first degree and taken to the Travis County Jail. CBS Austin said that he is being held on $1 million bail.
The station also said Moore has a criminal record and has been to prison, but police told the affiliate that there had been no calls to Mlsna’s home about domestic violence.
“No one should be taken lightly.” “He is 84 years old,” Pina said. “But you can not tell who is dangerous and who isn’t.”
In a situation where someone is living with you, you do not know who they are unless you have known them your whole life or have done a lot of research on them.
