A homeless man from Elgin was arrested by St. Charles police after he reportedly attacked a child at a middle school football field over the weekend without any reason.
The event took place in the 700 block of West Main Street on Saturday around 2:00 p.m.
Police say the young man was on the field by himself when Anderson Contreras, 21, came up to him and beat him up without any reason. They did not know each other.
After hitting the child, Contreras ran away from the scene of the crime westward. After getting the call, police found him in the 1300 block of West Main Street, where he was still running away. After a short chase, he was caught and taken into prison.
Some of the charges against Contreras are serious battery on a public way, which is a Class 3 crime, which is one of the charges.
Besides that, he is charged with resisting a peace officer, battery causing bodily harm, and battery making direct contact. These are all Class A misdemeanours.
The probe is still going on.
