We told you last week that the Maryland Lottery was looking for the winner of a Cash4Life ticket bought at an Olney 7-Eleven. The winner would get $1,000 a week for life or a lump sum of $1 million.
We now know that the prize was claimed by a grandma from Olney, who chose to get cash instead.
The Maryland Lottery says that a grandmother from Maryland won a million dollars in the Cash4Life game that was played in multiple states. The woman from Olney found out she had won while checking the numbers on her phone while sitting on the couch at home.
At 9:15 p.m., she looked up the findings of the drawing that had happened at 9 p.m. She had no idea what she was seeing.
“One hand held the ticket, and the other held my phone with the lines on it.” The winner says, “I asked himself, ‘Am I seeing double?'” The woman from Montgomery County won $1,000 a week for life because her quick-pick ticket had a Cash Ball of 1.
She also saw doubles for the other numbers, which led to the win. The lottery player said she would not say how she plans to spend her win because she wants to talk to a financial advisor first.
Her big win came as a big surprise since she does not play Cash4Life very often. She also bought her ticket at the Olney 7-Eleven, a store she had never been to before.
As she was driving on the side of the road next to the store at 18120 Georgia Avenue, she stopped there because traffic was bad that day.
The lucky woman saw that she still had $2 to spend on a Pick 3/4/5 play slip in the store.
She chose Cash4Life as the game she would play next and bought one $2 quick-pick ticket. She said that she had only played the game two or three times before. She said, “It was just luck that I played it.”
The 7-Eleven is also having a party. The shop gets a $2,500 Lottery bonus for selling the second-tier winning ticket.
It is the 10th second-tier Cash4Life prize won in Maryland since the game was added to the lottery in 2016. During that time, five people from Maryland have won the top prize of $1,000 a day for life.
