Ohio State and Oregon have an interesting past, since they do not really live in the same area and have only played one other team.
Early in 2021, the Ducks pulled off a surprise win, which was just enough to keep the Ohio State Buckeyes out of the College Football Playoff. Oregon had only won that game out of ten tries.
They played each other a few times in 1960, but they finally got together in 1983. They played in the first-ever College Football Playoff National Championship, which Ohio State won.
But only one of those ten games took place in Eugene. In 1967, Ohio State won 30-0.
This time, it sets the tone for the Big Ten race, the chase for the College Football Playoff, and it could decide who gets the top spot.
It is also Dan Lanning’s chance to finally get a big win. Two wins over Utah were nice, but do not bring up the Fiesta Bowl win over Liberty.
The Ducks lost to Georgia 49–3 in his first game as head coach two years ago.
They also lost three times to Washington, including last year’s Pac-12 Championship, where a spot in the College Football Playoff was likely on the line. Now, the best team in college football is coming to Autzen.
So far, Ohio State has been performance art. Iowa was like a light snack after Michigan State, and now that the team has played five games, they should be ready for the real season to begin.
The Buckeyes’ next games are against Nebraska and Penn State. For now, though, just beating this great Duck team would be enough.

Why Ohio State Will Win
The defense is the best in the country.
The Buckeyes are No. 1 in both total and scoring defense with a fantastic pass rush, the nation’s third-best run defense, and Oregon will need to be physical enough to handle all of it.
It’s not just that the Ohio State defense is experienced and tough, everyone can really, really run.
The Buckeye backs can run, too. Oregon struggled to put away Boise State, and struggled a bit against Oregon State, and now it has to deal with an Ohio State ground game averaging over six yards per pop. However …
Why Oregon Will Win
This Oregon attack is the first of its kind that Ohio State has had to deal with.
QB Dillon Gabriel is an experienced pro who has seen it all. The fast passing game that depends on a high completion rate and keeping things moving should work, and the speed will be important.
No, this is not the Oregon offence from before that went a million miles per hour. It can move quickly and win the fight for time of possession. It is not planned out like Iowa, and it is a lot more steady than Michigan State.
Also, the Duck defence could not handle Ashton Jeanty of Boise State—no one can—but it stopped the Spartans’ running game, has the pass rush to get to the Ohio State backfield and get going, and
Ohio State vs Oregon: Who Will Win
Ohio State has too many people.
There are NFL parts in every part of the Ohio State football team: explosion, power, teaching staff, and
Weakness. This could be Ryan Day’s best team yet, but they have not played a show yet. That is going to change in Oregon soon.
The Ducks will come out flying, and the Oregon crowd will go crazy. Then things will calm down.
Early in the second half, Ohio State will score on two drives. The defence will tighten up and put more pressure on Gabriel, and everyone in the country will finally wake up and realise how far ahead of everyone else this Ohio State is.
The polls still have Texas at the top of the list.
