The 30-year-old Brooklyn resident Soauib Butcher admitted today that he was part of a plan to trade children for sex.
This was announced by U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger. Butcher made his plea in front of U.S. District Judge Michael E. Farbiarz in Newark federal court. He could get a life sentence there.
According to court papers, Butcher took the victim by train to New York City in August 2019 and forced her to have oral sex for money on a Brooklyn rooftop.
The victim was then driven to Elizabeth, New Jersey, where they stayed in different motel rooms with Butcher and someone who has not been named. This happened from August 2019 to January 2020.
The accused person was named in court and admitted to putting the victim’s picture on escort websites and setting up meetings with people who paid to have sexual acts with the child.
Conspiracy to traffic a minor for sex comes with a potential sentence of life in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Butcher is set to be sentenced on February 19, 2025.
Under the direction of Acting Special Agent in Charge Nelson I. Delgado in Newark, the FBI did the investigation that led to the guilty plea. Asst. U.S. Attorneys Katherine M.
