California police say that the two people who are accused of killing a 71-year-old photographer will now go to jail.
In July 2017, a photographer took his new camera to the Twin Peaks lookout point to take pictures of the city. This was reported by the San Francisco District Attorney on September 20.
Prosecutors say that is when Lamonte Mims, 27, and Fantasy Decuir, also 27, approached the guy, whose name was Edward French, and robbed him with a gun.
Officials say that Mims and Decuir were caught on camera during the alleged crime.
Police say Mims took French’s camera bag from him before Decuir is accused of shooting him in the heart and lung.
Police say Mims kicked him and grabbed the bag while he was on the ground.
After that, Mims and Decuir left, according to the police.
Police say they tried to sell French’s camera an hour after he was killed.
They were caught after police said they worked together to rob two tourists.
Assistant DA Aaron Laycook said in the release, “The victim was ripped from the lives of his friends and family by this callous killing over a camera.”
“We are very thankful that the jury took the time to carefully consider all the evidence in this case. We hope that their decision gives the victim’s family and friends a sense of justice and closure.”
Officials said Mims was found guilty of murder.
Officials say Decuir was found guilty of murder, stealing, and using a gun to kill someone on purpose.
A little too emotional for me.” “Justice has been coming after us for seven years, it should not have taken this long,” Lorrie French, French’s sister, told ABC7.
