A new, higher Supplemental Security Income check worth up to $1,1450 will be sent to people who receive it in less than two months. This is the most that any eligible couple could get, plus the 2.5% cost of living adjustment (COLA) that was confirmed on October 10th.
Plus, it is important to note that each beneficiary will also get the extra money, which could amount to $967.
Lastly, people who are eligible for the average payment will get a check for $715 every month starting January 31. This is $17 more than the regular average payment of $698.
Why will beneficiaries receive a new SSI check on January 31st?
Most people who get Social Security know that their SSI check comes on the first of every month, unless that day is a holiday, Saturday, or Sunday. Because February 1st is a Saturday, the Social Security Administration moved that payment to Friday, January 31st.
Aside from this change, SSI recipients will also see changes during the first three months of the year. This is because the first days of February and March are both weekends.
That is, people who are supposed to get payments will not get them on February 1st and March 1st. Based on the Social Security payment schedule for 2025, here are all the dates that payments will be made in the first three months:

Why is the SSI check important for more than 7 million recipients in the US?
The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program is one of the most important financial programs in the country because it helps seniors, disabled people, and kids who are having a hard time with money.
Many more than 7 million people would likely be poor if they did not get these monthly benefits. They could not afford to buy the things they need.
SSI recipients can not have assets worth more than $2,000 for individuals and $3,000 for couples, with a few rare exceptions. This is important to stress.
Unfortunately, this makes it hard to apply and get into the program. To improve your chances of being accepted, you should always talk to a financial advisor or Social Security expert about your situation.
The eligibility criteria for the SSI check are challenging
People who want to get SSI benefits must not only meet the strict financial requirements (they can not make more than $1,907 a month), but they must also meet the strict medical requirements of Social Security Disability Insurance.
Most claims for disability benefits are turned down. SSA turns down applicants who are technically disqualified, usually because their income or assets are too high to qualify.
The applicants who are still eligible are sent to their state’s disability determination services for a medical evaluation.
