Walmart has to call back a lot of a vegetable that a lot of people in North America eat. The food item has been deemed contaminated with Listeria by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), so the store has been told to take it off the shelves.
On top of that, the FDA has told people not to eat the product under any circumstances.
There are a lot of rules and regulations that food companies have to follow in order for their products to get to stores and supermarkets. It is important to say again that eating contaminated food is very bad for everyone’s health.
Walmart is removing a contaminated product from its stores.
The food that can not be sold at Walmart is Enoki mushrooms from Taiwan, which are made by HH Fresh Trading Corp in California. These mushrooms are contaminated with Listeria, a very harmful bacteria that makes people sick.
The FDA report says that “they were distributed in West Virginia in several retail stores,” and the contamination was found after a lot of testing.
Listeria is a common bacteria that can be found in food and happens when company equipment is not cleaned properly. For children and pregnant women, the effects can be fatal, and healthy people can get very sick and die.
The FDA report says that on September 9, 2024, testing of a 200-gram sample of Enoki showed that it contained Listeria monocytogenes. HH Fresh Trading was notified of this on October 11, 2024.
