Murder suspects claim innovative yet controversial method led to pregnancy behind bars
Unlikely romance leads to unconventional conception
A Florida murder suspect has made headlines for claiming she conceived a baby while in jail, referring to her daughter as a “miracle baby.”
Daisy Link, 29, who is currently being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center for the alleged murder of her husband in 2022, claims she became pregnant with the child of fellow inmate Joan Depaz, 23, through an unconventional method.
It is said that the two prisoners, who had never met in person, talked to each other and started dating through the air conditioning vents in their cells.
As part of their alleged plan, Link explained in detail to WSVN how Depaz would send his sperm through the vent system wrapped in plastic wrap.
The method behind the ‘miracle baby’
He told us how the process worked. The man said, “I wrapped the sperm in Saran Wrap five times a day for about a month straight.” Link said that she would use a makeshift line made of tied bedsheets to get the package.
“He would roll it up like a cigarette and connect it to the line we had in the vent. Then I would pull it through them.” After that, I put it inside the ones for yeast infections. I put it inside of them and then gave them the medicine from there.
In June, Link gave birth to a girl. Her family is now taking care of her outside of prison. She meant well by calling the child “a blessing” and a “miracle baby.”
Depaz compares the situation to the Virgin Mary
Depaz, who is also being held on murder charges, said he had no physical contact with Link and said she was like the Virgin Mary. She was like the Virgin Mary, he said, emphasizing that their unusual way of getting pregnant kept them from touching each other.
Many people are interested in and debating the story because it makes people think about prison conditions, relationships between prisoners, and how far people will go to get what they want.
Awaiting trial and parenting challenges
Link and Depaz are both still being held in jail while they wait for their trials. Their relationship and the birth of their child have made them seem more likeable to the public, but their legal battles still loom large.
Legal experts and family advocates are still talking about how to care for and raise the child in the future, as well as the legal effects of their actions.
