Fox News Channel had the most viewers on election night, with more than 10 million watching as President-election Trump’s historic win unfolded.
Nielsen Media research shows that Fox News Channel had an average of 10.3 million viewers during its “Democracy 2024” primetime coverage, with 3.1 million of those viewers being in the age group 25–54, which is very important to advertisers.
FOX Business Network had 897,000 viewers, and FOX Broadcasting Network had an average of 2 million viewers. Together, all of FOX’s TV platforms had about 13.6 million viewers.
“FOX News dominated every aspect of this historic election cycle, from primary debates to town halls to being the only network to conduct interviews with all four candidates in both parties in a one-week span as Bret Baier helmed the most buzzed about interview of the race,” Suzanne Scott, CEO of FOX News, said in a note.
“I am extremely proud of our team’s commitment to delivering the top reporting and analysis to the largest and most politically diverse audience in news and once again beating every broadcast and cable network across the board.”
After NewsNation with 265,000 viewers, ABC with 5.9 million viewers, NBC with 5.5 million viewers, CNN with 5.1 million viewers, and CBS with 3.6 million viewers, MSNBC came in second with 6 million peak viewers.
As of early Wednesday morning, Fox News Channel still had the most viewers. It had over 7.4 million viewers when the Fox News Decision Desk called Pennsylvania for Trump, giving him the 270 Electoral College votes he needed to become president again.
More people watched Fox News than CNN and MSNBC put together.
After Trump finished his victory speech at 3 a.m. ET, Fox News Channel had a strong 4.7 million total viewers, with 1.2 million in the key demo.
In contrast, MSNBC had an average of just 2.6 million viewers, with only 633,000 in the key demo, and CNN had only 2.1 million viewers, with 808,000 in the key demo.
This is the second election in a row that Fox News Channel did better than all other cable and broadcast networks.
Nielsen Media Research found that Fox News Channel was the most-watched cable news network in all swing states. These states included Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
A study by Nielsen MRI Fusion found that more Democrats and independents watched “Democracy 2024” on Fox News than any other network. A new study from YouGov found that Fox News is where more independents get their news than any other source.
The digital space was a good place for FOX News Media. Between 6 p.m. and 3 a.m. ET, 47.2 million people watched FOX News Digital’s livestream. An average of 386,000 people watched FOX News Digital each minute. This number includes FOX Nation.
Emplifi found that Fox News had 2.9 times as many social interactions on Facebook, Instagram, and X as its competitors in the news business. The Fox News app for phones also moved up to No. 3 in the App Store’s list of free apps.
