Should Georgia lose to Georgia Tech in order to stay in the College Football Playoff?
Not really.
Georgia is almost certain to play in the SEC title game, but things could get rough if Vanderbilt shocks Tennessee or Texas A&M beats Texas. In all seriousness, though, let us say the Dawgs are in.
Georgia will be in the College Football Playoff even if it has three losses if it wins the SEC Championship. It is not a given, but it will be there. But if the Dawgs lose here, they will not have any safety nets left because they can not lose the SEC title game.
The Canes’ chance to make it to the CFP was already in danger when Georgia Tech beat them a few weeks ago. The season has been great so far, but beating Georgia and going 8-4 would be huge.

Why Georgia Tech Will Win
During third downs, the defense is still great.
The defense might have had a bad game against NC State last week, but most of the time it is good enough to keep the ball out of the end zone. Georgia, on the other hand, is still… off.
It steps up when it needs to, but it is not reliable, it is too hard to get things going, and the very good offense is only converting 41% of its third down chances overall.
Georgia Tech’s offense is getting good play from young, mobile quarterback Aaron Philo while veteran Haynes King is hurt. These two have the right attitude for an attack because they are getting a lot of things right. But…
Why Georgia Will Win
Stop Georgia Tech from going, stop Georgia Tech.
When it comes to running the ball, the Yellow Jackets’ quarterbacks do a good job, but their backs are what really make them good. They have a 7-0 record when they run for 119 yards or more and an 0-4 record when they don’t.
Georgia did not pay full attention to UMass, so the Minutemen ran for 226 yards, which is almost six yards per carry.
They may have a great record when they run for 119 yards or more, but six of those seven wins came when they ran for 190 yards or more.
Last week, UMass ran for 226 yards. The Bulldogs have not let anyone get to 175 yards yet.
Georgia vs Georgia Tech: Who Will Win?
At times, Georgia Tech will play really well, while Georgia will be dull right from the start for some reason. It will get stronger after that.
This one is going to be on the Georgia D. If this group turns up the heat a notch, forget about it.
