Retirees should know when they will get their Social Security payments because they are important for planning and living costs. If you are getting Social Security in April 2024, here is the official payment plan.
The 2024 Social Security Benefits Payment Schedule has all the information you need about when your Social Security payments will be made.
Since November 3 is a Sunday, people who got benefits from the Retirement, Survivors, and Disability Insurance (RSDI) program before May 1997 will get their regular checks on Friday, November 1, instead of on November 3.
Because of this change, people who get RSDI or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will now get their Social Security checks on the first of every month.
Social Security payments will change in November for some beneficiaries
As was already said, people who get SSI or RSDI will get their monthly payments on the first of the month. Like always, the Social Security Administration will make three more payments on the second, third, and fourth Wednesdays of each month after this one.
They must be eligible for disability, retirement, or widow benefits and have claimed them after May 1997 in order to get these last three payments.
If these first requirements are met, Social Security recipients will get their payouts in a step-by-step process, as shown below:
On the second Wednesday (November 13), for retired Americans, disabled people and survivors, and disabled individuals who were born between the 1st and the 10th
On the third Wednesday (November 20), for retired Americans, survivors, and disabled individuals who were born between the 11th and the 20th
On the fourth Wednesday (November 27), for retired Americans, survivors, and disabled individuals who were born between the 21st and the 31st
Beneficiaries will get different amounts of money each month, depending on the program they are eligible for, their income and resources, their full retirement age (FRA).
Their work history, the amount of Social Security taxes they have paid, and the type of disability they have (only for those who qualify for SSDI benefits). To learn more about the current payment amounts for each program, please look at the table below:
Social Security payments | Retirement benefits | Survivors benefits | Disability benefits | SSI benefits |
On average | $1,900 | $1,505 | $1,537 | $698 |

You should know that people who want to get the most out of Social Security must meet all of the agency’s standards.
For this reason, because getting these maximum payments can be hard, we suggest that you talk to a financial expert or SSA specialist about your finances to figure out the best way to get these monthly checks.
Do not contact customer service until at least three sending days have passed if you do not receive your checks on time. This is because the delay could be caused by your bank’s payment process.
How much will Social Security payments increase as of January 2025?
The Social Security Administration has finally confirmed the exact day that the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) raise will be given to beneficiaries.
This comes after months of guesses about how much their new check will go up. About 70 million Americans get money from Social Security. Their monthly payments are set to go up the least since before the coronavirus pandemic.
The Social Security Administration confirmed on October 10 that the new cost of living adjustment (COLA) for 2025 will be 2.5%. This was based on the most recent CPI inflation statistics. Because of this COLA raise, here’s how much Social Security will pay next year:
