Body parts from a teen from Texas who had not been seen in almost 20 years were found in the fridge of a home in Colorado. This was confirmed by the Mesa County Coroner’s Office.
Police said they belonged to Amanda Overstreet, 16, who lived in both Grand Junction, Colorado, and Harris County, Texas.
Authorities said that Overstreet had not been seen living since 2005.
A neighbor said that the new owners of the Grand Junction house had a garage sale in January to get rid of things that the old owners had left behind. A deep freezer was one of the things they wanted to sell.
Someone came to buy the freezer, and when they opened it to take out the meat, a human head fell out of a plastic bag, according to the neighbor.
Hands were also found in the freezer with the head. The rest of Overstreet’s body has not been found yet, but police say they are looking into her death as a murder.
Police said they looked all over the house but could not find any more body parts.
Police did not know who the person was, how long they had been dead, or how they died at the time. They did not even know if the person was a man or a woman. They were able to be sure that the remains were those of Overstreet after months of tests.
Colorado police said that Overstreet’s mother had lived in the house where her body parts were found before. They said that a report of a lost person was never made.
