According to court records, the 68-year-old defendant, who was later named as MichaeI, was given a sentence of more than 40 years in prison last week for killing his long-term partner and then saying she killed herself.
Police say the defendant took his 60-year-old wife Nanncy to the basement and drowned her in the utility basin, killing her.
In a statement asking for a harsh prison term, the DA’s office said that the defendant put the victim’s head under a basin, then held her there and “watch the woman’s life leave her body.”
The accused person has to spend 45 years before he can get out of jail. He got his sentence after earlier this year being found guilty of first-degree murder by a jury.
In November 2019, someone called 911 and said that his wife of more than 40 years had drowned herself and killed herself.
This was the start of the investigation. The man said that he did CPR on the woman for several minutes in an effort to save her life. When that did not work, he called the police to report the fatal accident.
The woman was found with her head in the sink when help arrived. Court papers show that she was pronounced dead at the scene. As the police looked into what happened, they found that the woman had been killed.
The woman had bruises that looked like they were caused by someone holding her underwater, according to the medical examiner. The husband, who is 68 years old, was arrested a month after the murder, but his case was thrown out several times.
