Michelle Obama shared some advice with Melania Trump about being First Lady and raising children in the White House.
The best-selling author said in public that she had a hard time as first lady for eight years, but that her faith in her husband helped her get through it.
In an interview with Stephen Colbert in 2016, Michelle, however, said something very different: she did not feel sorry for political spouses who might not agree with their partners.
“No, you have to be in it, you know.” If you do not agree with them, you should have agreed before they ran. In the end, I would not support Barack’s run if I did not agree with what he said.
So I am standing there with pride, and I hope they are too, standing with their spouses with pride. “So no, no sympathy,” Michelle said, and everyone in the room laughed at how honest she was.
On the other hand, Melania Trump just recently wrote in her self-titled memoir that she and her husband have different political views on abortion rights.
“Taking away a woman’s freedom to decide if she wants to end an unwanted pregnancy is the same thing as taking away her control over her body.” This belief has been a part of my adult life the whole time,” Melania wrote in her book.
People were shocked when Melania decided to include a lot of support for abortion rights.
This is because her partner, President-elect Donald Trump, ran on a platform of opposing abortion and worked to take away women’s reproductive rights in the US while he was in office.
Melania also said in her “tell-all” that she and Donald do not agree on some parts of immigration policy. She was not running for office this time around, but Melania said in an interview with DuJour magazine, “I am very involved at home.” In her book, she also said that she would rather argue with her husband alone.
There were some differences between Michelle and Melania, but Michelle made sure that the handoff of power went smoothly.
Michelle wrote on Instagram at the time that she was upset about the 2016 election results, but she also said, “Our democracy is so much bigger than anyone’s ego.”
