As 2025 gets closer, the Social Security Administration (SSA) is getting ready to start giving new Social Security benefits to retirees, survivors, disabled workers, and people who get Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
Beneficiaries need to know when their Social Security payments will come in so they can confidently manage their money and pay their daily bills.
Find out more about the monthly payments that people who qualify for retirement, survivors, disability, or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits will get in January, along with the dates that those payments will be made.
Every month, the US federal agency is in charge of sending five sets of payments.
When people who get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Retirement, Survivors, and Disability Insurance (RSDI) get their first two sets, they get them on the first and third days of the month.
Based on the date of birth of each RSDI recipient, the US federal agency will send three more payments on the second, third, and fourth Wednesdays of each month.
This means that millions of Americans can enjoy their retirement years, keep their purchasing power, and in some cases stay above the poverty line thanks to these monthly payments.
How much money will beneficiaries receive in 2025?
The amount of money someone gets from Social Security depends on a lot of things, like how old they are when they can start getting benefits, how much they paid into Social Security while they were working, and what kind of disability they have, especially if they qualify for SSDI.
Once a person is eligible for the program, the SSA will figure out how much they will get each month based on their unique situation. But beneficiaries should know that this amount will change every year because the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) goes up.
This is done to help beneficiaries keep up with inflation. As the 2.5% increase was confirmed by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the following payment amounts will be sent to beneficiaries starting in January 2025:
Retirement benefits | Social Security checks | 2.6% COLA increase | 3.2% COLA increase |

New Social Security payment schedule official with an increase for January 2025
This is because January 1 is a federal holiday, so SSI recipients do not get their benefits on that day. Instead, they get their Social Security checks early on Tuesday, December 31.
That being said, the Social Security Administration will move the payment to Friday, January 31, since February 1 is a holiday. What this means is that SSI recipients will not get their regular benefits in January, but they will get a payment early from February.
In addition to this small change to the regular schedule, retirees, survivors, and disabled workers who first claimed benefits before May 1997 will get their monthly payments on the third day of the month.
Those who first claimed benefits after that date will get their monthly payments based on their date of birth. Check out the information below or the official 2025 payment schedule for more details on all the upcoming due dates.
