This is a great example of the saying “a rivalry win might mean everything.”
To be kind, Kentucky has been having a hard time. The team lost its last five SEC games and one strange win over Ole Miss. The offense was bad and the defense was not strong enough. At 4-7, beating the rival is important.
There is hope when you are 5-7 and beat Louisville. Things go badly when you are 4-8 and have lost.
After losing to Miami and SMU, Louisville was sure to be the third-best team in the ACC. But then they crashed badly against Stanford for no clear reason. It beat Pitt easily, but now it is just trying to get into a better bowl game.

Louisville vs Kentucky: Who Will Win?
Kentucky needs to be able to make passes and move the chains.
This year, it is terrible on third downs because it is one of the worst teams in the country at just catching passes. The Wildcats only made 55% of their throws, and Louisville is 6-0 when they give up less than 65% and 1-4 when they give up more.
Ohio and southern Mississippi. Against those two FBS teams, UK was able to have a strong passing day, but that is not going to happen here.
Even though Kentucky is at home and this could be the season, it has yet to score more than 13 points against a Power Four team in Kroger.
They will have a hard time getting the offense going, but in the second half, two things will change that.
