Police in Vermont say the 29-year-old man they nabbed Friday in a death investigation in northern Vermont killed his father and seriously hurt his mother with a baseball bat.
The crime took place in Enosburgh, and Jordan Lawyer is being charged with second-degree murder and first-degree aggravated domestic attack. He was arrested on Friday and was being held without bail. He was supposed to see a judge on Monday.
The man who killed his father was recognised as 54-year-old Todd Lawyer by Vermont State Police. Based on an autopsy, his death was caused by blunt force trauma, and the method of death was murder.
Lawyer’s 58-year-old mother was said to be okay at the hospital as of Friday night.
They shared a house on West Enosburgh Road.
Friday morning, police put out an alert saying they were looking for Lawyer. Early in the morning, around 11:30 a.m., they said they had found Lawyer and arrested him.
Around 8:45 a.m., state police got a call about a disturbance at a home on West Enosburgh Road, also known as Route 108, near Tyler Branch Road.
They said Lawyer was wanted in connection with that incident. When the police arrived, they found a dead body outside the house. A second person was taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance to get help.
Lawyer was caught in downtown Enosburgh around 11:20 a.m. on Friday, according to the cops.
People were told to “be on the lookout” for him and the black Jeep Cherokee he was driving after he was seen leaving the property where something had been changed earlier in the morning.
A lot of police, including state police, the U.S. Border Patrol, and the Warden Service Division of the Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife, rushed to the scene.
The Jeep was found on Vermont Route 105 west of Enosburgh by a state trooper. Lawyer, who was driving, sped off when the policeman tried to make them stop, and a short chase began going east on Route 105.
State police said that the police stopped chasing the Jeep when it got to Enosburgh.
The Jeep came to a stop after hitting a car driven by a game warden in the middle of town. According to the state police, they used an impact round that was not dangerous to arrest Lawyer.
The lawyer was being treated for his injuries at Northwestern Medical Centre in St. Albans, according to state police. No other accidents were reported from what happened on Friday.
