A man from Massachusetts got a lottery ticket at a Sunoco gas station and won $1 million.
William Carpenter from Springfield won the first $1 million prize in the new scratch ticket game called “$2,500,000 Merry & Bright.” The $10 game came out on October 15.
As of Oct. 22, all three of the $2.5 million grand prizes and all five of the $1 million wins had not been claimed.
Carpenter decided to get his prize in cash, so he got a one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes. He told the lottery that he was going to save the money he won.
The man from Springfield bought the winning ticket at the Abington Sunoco gas station at 336 Center St. Because they sold the winning ticket, the shop will get an extra $10,000.
