At one well-known fast food company, an E. coli outbreak has caused a lot of worry.
Seventy-five people in the United States have been sickened by this outbreak that is linked to the McDonald’s Quarter Pounder. People in Alabama don’t need to worry, according to the Alabama Department of Public Health. However, if you do get sick after eating at a restaurant, there are things you can do.
Melanie Boggan, head of program compliance for ADPH, said, “We tell them to go to the ADPH website.” “There is a place for complaints about food-borne outbreaks.” They can fill out the form there with details about the business, or they can call the county health department himself.
Boggan says that these reports are usually looked over in the next 24 hours.
They will find out more about the person who reported the food safety problem, such as what signs they were having, and then they will go to the business to make sure that health rules are being followed.
“Given the facts we find, we may send out notices of violation so that we can make sure the right steps are taken to fix the problem,” Boggan said.
Joe Erlinger, President of McDonald’s USA, says that the company is making decisions based on what is best for their customers after this incident.
“We’re sure we’ll get through this, and we’ll earn back the trust of American customers to come to McDonald’s,” Erlinger said.
There have been no reports of problems with any McDonald’s food in Alabama, according to a spokesman for local McDonald’s restaurants. All menu items are still in stock.
Symptoms of a food-borne sickness, like feeling sick, throwing up, or having problems with your bowels, usually start 12 to 24 hours after eating the contaminated food.
You can file a foodborne illness report on the ADPH website if you think you got sick from eating at a restaurant.
