A death investigation continued Sunday after a missing woman was discovered dead in a north suburban wooded area on Saturday morning, according to police.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the body as Atalia Pucheta Martinez, 23. She had gone missing from Mount Prospect.
Elk Grove Village police said on Saturday that around 9:30 a.m., a driver saw a person lying in Busse Woods near Higgins Road, which is about a mile west of Arlington Heights Road.
Mount Prospect police said they were called to the 1400 block of Brownstone Court just before 2 p.m.
Saturday about a missing woman who matched the description of the woman who had been found dead earlier in the forest preserve near Elk Grove Village. Martinez was the missing person who was found dead.
Along with police from Elk Grove Village and Mount Prospect, the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department and the Cook County Forest Preserve Police are now looking into a death.
The medical examiner has not yet decided what killed Martinez.
The police said it again Sunday, there was no real danger to the community, and it was a one-time thing.
