New police bodycam film depicts unusual behavior during the arrest of an Ohio teen convicted of purposely ramming her car into a wall at 100 mph in July 2022, killing her boyfriend and passenger.
Mackenzie Shirilla, now 19, was found guilty of four counts of murder and other crimes in July 2022 for the murders of her lover, Dominic Russo, and his friend, Davion Flanagan, whom a Cuyahoga County Commons Pleas judge described as a “literal hell on wheels.”
Prosecutors claim Shirilla, then 17, drove her Toyota Camry into a brick wall of a company in Strongsville, OH, in the early morning hours of July 22, 2022, to stop her unhealthy relationship with Russo, and Flanagan was only along for the trip.
In a video released by the Strongsville Police Department, a cop is seen urging a shackled and sobbing Shirilla to exit the police SUV.
“Hi Mackenzie, step out for me?” The cop can be heard questioning Shirilla. “I am the one who has been researching the crash. “You’ve been arrested for aggravated murder twice.”
“Nobody’s going to ask you any questions, nobody’s going to bother you,” he went on.
Shirilla may be heard telling the police to be careful with her bracelet.
“Could you please be careful taking this one off so it doesn’t break the bracelet, please?” Shirilla asks with tears.
“You got it,” the officer said, as he adjusted the cuffs. “I am not going to tighten these, okay? I do not want to hurt you.
Shirilla was then placed in another patrol car, where she seemed to rest and closed her eyes while driving to the station.
Shirilla was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison in 2023 after a prosecutor slammed her for her “shocking lack of remorse,” but in a show of kindness, the judge ruled that the two periods be served concurrently rather than consecutively.
She will be eligible for parole in 15 years instead of 30.
Russo and Flanagan were pronounced dead on the scene, while Shirilla was comatose and needed to be rescued from the wrecked automobile.
Shirilla and the two victims had been consuming marijuana prior to the crash.
