This Thanksgiving, people who get Social Security will have another reason to be thankful. Because of a mistake in the schedule, recipients will get an extra check.
You will not get paid in December, which is bad news. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will get three checks in November, in addition to their monthly Social Security check.
SSI is government-issued retirement income for people aged 62 and up. But people who get SSI will not get any money in December.
Social Security payments have changed for November
The change was made because Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits are now paid on the first business day of every month. SSI benefits are extra payments on top of Social Security for people with low incomes and few resources.
The SSA calendar says that the checks will be sent out on November 29, because December 1 is a Sunday. You can already find the 2025 calendar online, and next year’s calendar will probably have some of the same weird features.
For instance, people who get SSI will get their January 2025 payments on December 31, 2024.
After that, you will get paid for February 2025 on January 31, 2025, and for March 2025 on February 28, 2025. In March, people who get SSI will not get a payment because of this. They will be paid twice in May 2025, but not at all in June.
U.S. citizens can get retirement, disability, and death benefits from Social Security to help them plan their finances. It is paid for by taxes paid by workers, employers, and people who work for themselves.
How much a worker will get from Social Security in retirement is based on how much they have earned over their lifetime.
Retirement benefits will replace a portion of your average earnings, but it will depend on how much you made and when you decide to start getting them.
Based on your work history, you may be able to get Social Security benefits if you are 62 or older, disabled, or blind, and have enough work credits.
What is the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program?
The SSA website says that SSI payments can be given to people 65 or older, blind, or with a qualifying disability, even children with a qualifying disability, who have limited resources and are eligible.
People who make less than $1,971 a month from work are often eligible for SSI. If you think you might be able to get SSI payments, Americans will soon be able to use a new, faster application process.
Also, the Social Security Administration sends over 70 million payments every year to retirees, survivors, disabled people, and SSI recipients.

To make sure that beneficiaries know when their payments are due for each program, they made an annual payment schedule.
You can use the Social Security Administration’s online calendar to make a budget by looking at when they pay out each year. Regular Social Security retirement benefits will be paid out on time, as usual for the SSA:
- Wednesday, November 13th: Birth dates between the first and tenth of the month.
- Wednesday, November 20: Birth dates from the 11th to the 20th of the month.
- Wednesday, November 27: Birth dates from the 21st to the 31st of the month.
How will the cost of living adjustment (COLA) affect Social Security payments in 2025?
With the new cost of living adjustment (COLA) of 2.5%, all beneficiaries will start getting more money in January 2025.
The goal of COLA is to help people who get benefits keep up with inflation so they have enough money to pay for their daily needs. With this 2.5% COLA increase in mind, here are all the next payments that will be made:
