The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) say that nine people in four states have been hospitalized because of an outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes that killed one baby. Eleventh case has been reported so far.
Ready-to-eat meat and poultry products from Yu Shang Food, Inc. have been linked to the outbreak. The goods were made before October 28, 2024. They include items with establishment numbers “P46684” or “EST. M46684” on the label.
People are being told to look in their fridges for these items and either throw them away or take them back to the store.
The recalled foods are on this list of labels from the USDA.
What You Need to Know
- Affected Products: All Yu Shang Food ready-to-eat meat and poultry items produced prior to October 28, 2024.
- Symptoms: Fever, muscle aches, tiredness, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, or seizures. Pregnant people may experience flu-like symptoms but are at risk of severe pregnancy complications.
- At-Risk Groups: Pregnant people, adults aged 65 and older, and individuals with weakened immune systems are most vulnerable.
What to Do
- Do not eat the foods that have been recalled.
- Any surfaces or containers that may have come into contact with the contaminated food should be cleaned and germ-free. It is possible for Listeria bacteria to live in cold places, like refrigerators.
- If you have eaten the products and are now having symptoms, you should call a doctor right away.
