A Pennsylvania man is accused of shooting his pregnant girlfriend while she was watching television.
The suspect, Kaiheem Jerelle Williams, 19, later admitted to police that he was high at the time. He is accused of shooting Tanyiah Bell, 19, in the head in their Lansdowne home while carrying a 45-caliber handgun, according to local authorities.
Williams reportedly called the cops and greeted them with the words, “My baby’s shot.” He told police he was “blacked out” and “in there,” implying that he was under the influence of drugs.
“I was fried, man,” Williams reportedly told emergency responders when they arrived at the Delaware County apartment where he allegedly shot Tanyiah Bell on November 14, just days after her birthday.
“I was outside smoking,” Williams stated, according to the criminal complaint. “I was in there.”
Officers rushed Bell to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in a desperate attempt to save her unborn child.
According to a press release from Lansdowne Police, she was eight months pregnant and survived due to “emergency surgery.” Unfortunately, the child’s prognosis is grim.
“The child was born alive at the time of the emergency surgery and is currently on life support with minimal neurological brain activity,” the investigating officer said.
“The condition is irreversible.” “The child is not expected to survive without life support machines.”
Williams confessed to detectives that he was alone with Bell in their apartment when he allegedly murdered her.
“He returned from work, spent approximately an hour in the apartment eating and ‘smoking’ with Bell, and then left to go to the store,” according to the report.
He got home, and Bell was ‘fine’ watching TV in the bedroom. He turned around and ‘blacked out.’ His next memory was dialing 911 from Bell’s phone because she had been shot.
Williams was arrested on November 15th and charged with first-degree murder. Doorbell footage from the scene appears to show him leaving his apartment about 15 minutes before reporting the shooting.
A 45-caliber bullet was also discovered in his pocket, according to the complaint. Lansdowne police officials called Bell’s death “heartbreaking and disturbing.”
Chief Ken Rutherford praised Kaiheem Williams’ arrest, saying, “The arrest of Kaiheem Williams demonstrates the unwavering determination of our officers and CID Detectives. Their efforts have pushed us one step closer to justice for the victim and her family.”
Relatives have set up a GoFundMe to cover funeral costs. “Tanyiah was brutally murdered just two days after celebrating her 19th birthday,” according to a GoFundMe page. “This loss is indescribable.”
