Joyaparis Walston, 33, was arrested by Rockford police for reportedly hitting her child with an extension cord, which left her arms swollen and bleeding.
At 10:18 a.m. on October 15, a Lincoln Middle School Resource Officer was called to a counselor’s office to talk to a student who had been hurt. The girl said she would rather talk to the psychologist about what happened.
Reports say the victim told the counselor that she and her mother got into a fight because her mother shaved her arms. Court records show that Walston hit the child on the forearms and left shoulder with an extension cord as the fight got worse.
The officer saw sores on her shoulder and dried blood on the inside of her nose.
Walston told the resource officer that she had to get things for the victim when she was challenged. The person who did it then left the school.
DCFS told the police that Walston would go to Summerdale Elementary School and pick up another child. The police were waiting at the school and arrested her.
Assaulting a child with a deadly weapon and assaulting a family member with a deadly weapon are the charges against Walston.
