Really? Texas and Vanderbilt are battling to hang around in the SEC Championship hunt?
Texas took a hit when it ran into a focused Georgia team in a 30-15 loss in Austin, but the rest of the slate isn’t too bad.
Again, this doesn’t sound right, but Vanderbilt is the only currently-ranked team the Longhorns will face until closing out the regular season at Texas A&M.
Vanderbilt has won three straight including stunners over Alabama and Kentucky, and now. There’s a chance to make an even bigger splash.
Beating Bama on the right day is one thing, but getting by Texas, too? At Auburn and South Carolina are next before closing at LSU and against Tennessee, but for now, hanging with the Longhorns is enough of a problem.

Why Texas Will Win
Quinn Ewers is still around.
Everything that said he was leaving to get ready for the NFL turned out to be false. The star quarterback should be angry that he had a hard time getting the offense going in the 30–15 loss to Georgia.
This team was No. 1 in the country not long ago, so he is not really a one-man band. There are still all the good things that were true before Georgia lost.
It is possible that this is the fastest team in the country all around. The defenders are there to stop Diego Pavia from pulling off the best Johnny Manziel impression, and…
Vanderbilt is still there. The attack is not as strong as you might think, and it is not very good at stopping third downs.
Why Vanderbilt Will Win
I mean it, Diego Pavia is that good.
It is not that the Commodores are putting up big numbers, but they can hold on long enough for 2 to do something amazing in the last minute.
How are we going to make this work?
Vanderbilt needs to learn from this. Texas has a huge turnover problem. In their last five games, they have given up eleven turnovers.
The offense needs to keep doing well on third downs. Against Alabama, it hit 67% of the time, but only 52% of the time this season. Texas is great on third downs, but they need to give up at least 40% in this one.
The Commodores can keep letting it fly as long as they play with house money, but…
Texas vs Vanderbilt: Who Will Win
The best defense in the country is still Texas.
The exciting Vandy wins and close call vs. Missouri overshadowed the fact that 1) Alabama does not block like Texas, 2) Kentucky does not play offense like Texas, and 3) Mizzou is not that great.
Even though Pavia will be Pavia, Texas will get back on track and roll through.
