Prediction, Preview, and Betting Lines for Oregon vs. Maryland

It was not a surprise that Oregon was ranked first in the College Football Playoff. Now it is about making it to the Big Ten Championship and having a chance to win and get into the top four.

It will get this, then a trip to Wisconsin, and finally a trip to Washington. It should be easy, but if they win here, they will almost certainly be in the conference title game.

Maryland needs to win two of its next four games to be eligible for a bowl game. It has lost three of its last four games. It ends with Penn State, Iowa, and Rutgers, so… uh oh.

Why Maryland Will Win

The way you pass is still great.

An awful lot of things may not be right, but Billy Edwards Jr. keeps throwing. The defense is giving him a lot of trouble, but he is getting the yards (314 on average per game) and has thrown two or more touchdowns in all but the big loss to Northwestern.

You could throw on the Duck defense, but they have not seen many teams that can do that. Illinois was not able to score, but Ohio State’s Will Howard was very smart.

The Terps should stay in this as long as Edwards Jr. hits about 70% of his throws. But…

Why Oregon Will Win

The worst pass defense in the Big Ten should be easy for Dillon Gabriel.

The Terps have a bit of a pass rush, but their secondary is getting shredded. In the last four games, they have given up ten touchdowns, with three or more in three of those games.

Oregon has done a great job. The passing game is averaging close to 300 yards per game, and it does not take much to win. Only Miami is better on third downs.

Thanks to Ashton Jeanty, Boise State had a great day on offense. Ohio State came close, but that is Ohio State. On the Duck D, no one has scored more than 17.

Maryland vs Oregon: Who Will Win?

Can Maryland do something great in a game where no one is expecting them to?

The Terps could get off to a great start and keep this interesting for at least a quarter. This is the first time these two teams have ever played each other.

It will start to fall apart, though, and Gabriel will make up for a few early mistakes. The Ducks will win the second half.

They should roll into Eugene, get rolled, and then go home.
