When they played each other for the first time in 1948, Michigan won 14-0. The last time these two teams played, in early 2007, the Ducks won 39–7.
But of the five times they have played, the biggest was in 2003, when Oregon won 31–27. That was the first of only two regular-season losses for a great Michigan team.
The Ducks are No. 1 in the country and on a roll this time when they come to Ann Arbor. They might not be able to sneak in with a win because they still have to play Maryland, Wisconsin, and Washington.
But if they do, they will be sure to be at the top of the College Football Playoff rankings right away.
Even though Michigan has lost two of its last three games, it just got back on track after a tough game against Michigan State. What if they lose, though? With games against Indiana, Northwestern, and Ohio State coming up, the Wolverines could end up 6-6.

Why Oregon Will Win
Michigan is a mess on offense.
Sometimes the passing game works, but most of the time it doesn’t, and the Wolverines’ average of 303 yards of total offense will not help.
In the past month, the ground game has stopped moving. The offense as a whole has failed to gain 300 yards five times, and turnovers are a big problem.
Oregon does not need to risk anything. The offense and defense worked well together against Illinois. The defense is especially strong at this point.
The run defense bends but does not break, and the team has not given up more than 14 points in any of the other six games, except against Ashton Jeanty’s Boise State offense and the Ohio State attack.
They should have a tough time stopping Michigan’s passing game.
Why Michigan Will Win
How do the Wolverines do this?
You guys on the Michigan offensive line should eat now.
The offense looked like it had it all together when they ran for 301 yards against Arkansas State and 290 yards against USC. But against Minnesota, everything went wrong. The Michigan backs are trying hard, but they can not find any space to move.
It is possible to run on Oregon. Purdue did it, Jeanty did crazy things for the Broncos, and the Duck defense has let runners gain more than four yards per carry in each of the last three games.
Keep moving the chains; Michigan is 4-0 when it makes at least 36% of its third down chances. But…
Oregon vs Michigan: Who Will Win
Eight teams failed more than 33% of their third down attempts. Boise State, Oregon State, and Illinois were the only three that did. But the Oregon defense will handle this.
But Oregon’s fast-paced passing game will keep things under control. It is possible for Michigan’s defense to step up and do something amazing against Dillon Gabriel and the offense.
The Wolverines will not be able to throw downfield, and the Ducks will be ready to stop the run. After the first half, Oregon will have a solid win without a lot of drama.
