PRINCESS Di’s ex-chauffeur claims she would still be alive if he had been driving on the night of her death.
Steve Davies, 61, claimed he was “forced out” after rogue BBC journalist Martin Bashir spread lies about him.
The next year, Diana died in a car accident in Paris.
Steve finally spoke out after 30 years: “I would have taken a bullet for Diana.” My job was everything to me. I was there for her all the time. I lost my dream job and had to start all over again.
The soldier was shocked when he was let go after eight years of perfect service.
He did not know why until many years later, when he watched the Netflix show The Crown.
Bashir lied to Diana that Steve told lies about her to the press in order to gain her trust and get the famous Panorama interview.
In August 1997, Steve said, “I can not put into words how sad I am that Diana died.”
He said, “All I know is that if things had gone differently, she would still be here today if I had been driving her that night in Paris. I would have kept her safe.”
Steve got money from the BBC in May after Bashir made false claims about him.
What he said was, “They should have said something before. They hid Bashir from the start.”
“Basically, he told her I was a traitor, but he was the one who was betraying her the whole time.”
