Russia’s President Vladimir Putin praised President-elect Donald Trump as “smart and experienced” enough to end the conflict in Ukraine, while slamming Democrats as worse than “gangsters” for their attacks on Trump’s family and “humiliating court procedures” against him.
Putin was talking to reporters in Kazakhstan on Thursday when the subject of the new Trump administration came up.
This was after he had criticized President Joe Biden for making things “even more difficult” by letting Ukraine use US-made long-range missiles against targets inside Russia.
“President Trump, who is smart and has a lot of experience, will find a way to solve the problem, especially since he had to go through a lot to get back into the White House,” he began.
Putin criticized the “uncivilized means” used by people who wanted to kill Trump, including people in his own country who are against him.
Well, probably just like me, you are amazed not by the fact that absolutely uncivilized means had been used against Trump all the way up to assassination attempts, numerous assassination attempts. And I think he’s not safe even now. The history of the United States has known many such cases, but I think President Trump is a smart person and a cautious one, I hope.
Putin criticized Democrats, but did not name them by name. He said they were the ones who brought “humiliating court procedures” against Trump and “attacked” his children, even though the charges had no legal basis. What he said:
What amazed me most was that in fighting him, not only Trump was subjected to humiliating court procedures, accusations and so on, but his family was attacked as well. His children was attacked. Gangsters don’t do this in Russia.
When criminal gangs fight, they don’t touch children and women. It’s men who fight among themselves. But those guys stooped as low as that. I think this looks so bad that it only reaffirms, reconfirms how low the political system of the United States has fallen.
