Red Lobster is working hard to win back seafood lovers after its bankruptcy filing last May. The popular American seafood chain has faced tough times due to heavy debt, a tough restaurant market, and costly mistakes like the “endless shrimp” promotion that hurt the business financially. Inflation, high rents, and rising food and labor costs also made things difficult.
In August 2024, Red Lobster hired a new CEO, Damola Adamolekun, who is leading a big turnaround effort. He promises a fresh start with a strong plan and over $60 million invested to bring new life to the brand while keeping its classic appeal.
1. Fan Favorites Are Back
One of the biggest changes announced by Adamolekun is the return of popular menu items that fans missed. Most notably, Red Lobster’s famous hush puppies—crispy fried cornmeal balls—are back after being gone for years. Their removal had caused a strong backlash on social media.
The chain also brought back popcorn shrimp, another longtime favorite, when the new menu launched last fall. These returns have excited loyal customers eager to enjoy the classic Red Lobster flavors again.
2. Affordable Menu Options
Red Lobster is also focusing on affordability with many dishes priced under $20. A new three-course meal called Shrimp Sensation costs $19.99 and includes soup or salad, a shrimp appetizer, and a shrimp entree.
The chain offers daily deals on popular dishes all weekday long, such as Lobster & Shrimp Scampi for $19.99 on Mondays and Shrimp or Chicken Alfredo for $14.99 on Thursdays. These deals make dining at Red Lobster more budget-friendly for seafood fans.
3. New Happy Hour Deals
To attract more customers during slower hours, Red Lobster launched a new happy hour from 3 to 6 pm on weekdays. Diners can enjoy $5 drink specials on classics like margaritas and Long Island Iced Tea, as well as drafts and wines. Plus, select appetizers like Lobster Flatbread and Crab Queso are $2 off.
The Cheddar Bay Biscuits Are Here to Stay
While many menu items are changing, CEO Adamolekun made it clear that one thing won’t change: Red Lobster’s beloved Cheddar Bay Biscuits. These buttery, cheesy biscuits have become a symbol of the brand and a major reason why customers visit.
Looking Ahead
Red Lobster’s fresh approach aims to bring back customers and build a stronger future. The chain is not alone—many restaurant brands like Chick-fil-A and Burger King are updating their menus to attract diners.
With smart menu changes, value deals, and fan favorites returning, Red Lobster hopes to regain its spot as a top seafood destination.
