The Social Security Administration will begin sending monthly checks to more than 70 million people in 2025 in less than two months. Some of these Social Security checks, though, will not be mailed on their regular dates.
This is especially true for people who get Supplemental Security Income (SSI). The SSA says that this is a financial program meant to help low-income adults over 65, disabled people, or children in certain financial situations.

Social Security confirmed two changes in 2025 payments
The government agency sends five sets of payments to people who get benefits from the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Retirement, Survivors, and Disability Insurance (RSDI) programs every month.
Beneficiaries get their payments based on this plan, as long as the following conditions are met:
- If they qualify for the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program, they will all receive their monthly benefits on the first day of the month, regardless of their birth date.
- Retired workers, survivors, and disabled people will get their payments based on the date they claimed their first benefit.
- On the third day of the month for those recipients who claimed before May 1997
- On the second, third, and fourth Wednesdays for recipients who claimed after May 1997.
The due dates may change if there are holidays or weekends, so please keep that in mind. According to the Social Security payment schedule for 2025, there will be a small change to the usual payment dates for January and February.
SSI recipients will get their benefits from February 1st to January 31st, and those from March 1st to February 28th.
The reason for these early payments is that if a beneficiary’s regular payment date happens on a holiday or weekend, the SSA will move it to the previous business day so as not to mess up their budgets.
Social Security payment dates scheduled to be mailed in January and February of 2025
As shown in the 2025 Social Security payment schedule, the following times are for sure when you will get paid in the first few months of 2025.
Do not forget that the 2.5% cost of living adjustment (COLA) released on October 10th will already be added to these Social Security payments.
