In less than 24 hours, millions of people who get Social Security will get a payment. It is almost Black Friday.
More than 7 million people who get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will get their early benefits from December 1st tomorrow, since that day is a weekend.
It is important to note that these monthly benefits are only available to seniors with low incomes, disabled people, and children who are having a hard time paying their bills.
But before they can get these checks, they have to show that they make less than $1,907 a month and have less than $2,000 in resources (for one person) or $3,000 for a couple.
The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program has clear guidelines that say different amounts are available for single people and couples who meet the above requirements.
As an example, people who filed as individuals could get up to $943, and couples can get up to $1,415 to cover their monthly costs.
How does Social Security plan your monthly payments?
There is not a strong reason to think about getting your Social Security benefits right away for every single person the SSA manages every month.
Speeding up the delivery of Social Security payments would only make mistakes more likely or put too much stress on the systems of different banks to handle a lot of transactions at once.
Problems only happen when a person does the same thing over and over again within a very short amount of time.
To back it up, the SSA has made a basic set of rules and a schedule for making payments every year. The payments are spread out over time, usually once a week.
The first rule says to divide the total number of recipients in half based on the date they started getting Social Security benefits. No matter if they started the program before May 1997 or after, they get their money on the third of every month.
Also, the program meets the needs of people who get Old Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance (OASDI) by taking turns based on their birth dates and people who get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) by taking turns every month on the first day since May 1997.
How can beneficiaries apply for Social Security payments from the SSI program?
Filing an SSI Application A person may be eligible to apply for SSI online if they:
- Are aged between 18 and 65 years.
- Have never been married.
- Are a US citizen who lives in one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, or the Northern Mariana Islands.
- I’ve never applied for or gotten SSI payments before.
- Are seeking Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) payments concurrently with an SSI claim.
One more way to start an application is to use the SSA’s online application tool. This lets you give some basic information and let them know you would like to set up a time to apply for SSI.
You can make an appointment online in five to ten minutes and do not need to fill out any forms. You and, if necessary, the person you are helping will need to give information.
