The Social Security Administration confirmed the official COLA increase for next year.
This means that millions of people who get benefits from retirement, survivor, disability insurance (RSDI), and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will finally know how much their monthly benefits will go up in January 2025.
Learn more about the recently confirmed dates for next year’s Social Security payments, as well as the amounts that will be sent to each beneficiary, if you are qualified for these federal benefits.
When will the first Social Security checks be delivered in 2025?
Five sets of payments need to be made by the government agency every month. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Retirement, Survivors, and Disability Insurance (RSDI) users will be the first to get their first two payments.
These will be sent to them on the first and third of every month. After that, SSA sends three extra payments to RSDI recipients on the second, third, and fourth Wednesdays of every month, based on their dates of birth.
A government holiday falls on January 1, so SSI recipients will get their benefits on Tuesday, December 31, instead of January 1. This is what the payment schedule for Social Security says.
The SSA will move the payment to Friday, January 31st, since February 1st is a holiday. People who get SSI will get an early payment from February payments, even though their monthly benefits will not come until January.
Retirees, survivors, and disabled workers who filed before May 1997 will still get their regular payments on the third of every month, with this small change to the plan.
People who applied after that date will start getting Social Security income based on the day they were born.

Benefits from Social Security are based on a number of factors, such as the person’s age, work history, contributions made while working, and the type of disability.
This is especially true for people who are trying to apply for the SSDI program. Once a person is eligible for the program, the SSA will figure out how much to pay each month based on their position.
he amount of the benefit will change every year, though, because the cost of living adjustment (COLA) goes up. This helps beneficiaries keep up with inflation.
Taking into account a 2.5% increase in monthly benefits, we would like to share with you how much more you can expect to get from Social Security. The official COLA raise will not be made public until October.
Please keep in mind, though, that this is just a guess about how much Social Security benefits will go up in the future. The real percentages and amounts of payments may be different.

The delay could be caused by a problem with how your bank processes the payments. Always check your My Social Security Account for more details about how much your monthly payment is.
