Donald Trump promised during his presidential campaign that he had nothing to do with Project 2025 and wanted nothing to do with it, but his support for figures associated with the conservative plan to overhaul the federal government may be upsetting some of his supporters, according to a political analyst.
Alexi McCammond, an opinion editor for the Washington Post who has written about Trump’s relationship with the “MAGA” base before, was on MSNBC on Saturday. Alex Witt, the host, asked about Trump’s choices of people who have ties to Project 2025.
“Several of the latest picks, they have direct ties to Project 2025, in spite of Trump distancing himself, saying he did not know what it was about during the campaign,” Witt told us. “I am interested in your take on this, and could this all be just theory, as some Republicans say?” I mean, not even to be used in a certain way.”
“No, I mean, it is remarkable because I feel like at least some voters might feel betrayed by this,” he said. It was brought up by you that Donald Trump said many times during the campaign, “I have no idea what Project 2025 is.
I have nothing to do with that. That is not my campaign.” People knew there were ties between the people working on Project 2025 and the policies they came up with, so he put a good amount of distance between himself and his campaign.
It was clear that the ideas behind what was planned were influenced by Donald Trump and his Republican brand of politics.
As she went on, she said, “I think Mike, Jim, and Axios put it this way: Trump is continuing to give people the middle finger by picking people who are controversial or who go against what he said over and over again on the campaign trail because he will do what he wants in the end.”
And one thing we all know for sure: Trump is more determined to do what he wants now that he is president again and is facing federal criminal charges and more accusations of assault from different women, among other things.
Note that Russ Vought, whose picture you showed, said that we live in a society that is no longer based on the Constitution. Wow, that is pretty scary.”
