A 15-year-old boy allegedly murdered all but one member of his entire family in their lakefront Washington state home last week, according to new court records obtained by Fox News Digital, detailing his only surviving sister’s frightening escape from death.
When police arrived at the home in Lake Alice, Washington, on Oct. 21, they discovered a “significant crime scene” ā the murdered bodies of two parents and three children ā and promptly arrested the male juvenile, King County Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Mellis said in a media conference.
The fatalities were identified by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office as Mark Humiston, 43, and Sarah Humiston, 42, and their three children: Benjamin, 13, Joshua, 9, and Katheryn, 7.
While the suspect was named in the retrieved documents, a judge on Friday prevented the media from revealing his identify.
Shortly before 5 a.m., the suspect contacted 911, reporting that his 13-year-old brother had murdered his family. According to the affidavit, he sounded out of breath and said, “He just shot my entire family and then committed suicide.”
The suspect stated that he was hiding in the toilet on the main floor of the house, and that one possible motive for his brother’s act was that he had been “caught looking at pornography the night before, and that he was about to get in a lot of trouble.”
During the suspect’s 911 call, authorities received another 911 call from a neighbor who lives about a quarter mile away from the Humiston home. The neighbor told authorities that the 11-year-old Humiston daughter appeared at their house and kept ringing the doorbell, telling them that her family was all dead and that her brother was the one who shot her.
The neighbor told authorities that the young girl had been injured by a potential gunshot wound and was bleeding from the neck and hand, and she was afraid her brother would find her.
The surviving youngster was taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. During an interview with authorities at the hospital, the 11-year-old started crying as she described her terrifying escape.
She stated that she and her younger sister shared a room and were awoken by the sound of gunshots. When she peered out the bedroom door to the hallway, she saw her father and brother laying in the hallway, blood on her father’s head and in her brother’s mouth. When her younger sister exited their bedroom and entered the corridor, the surviving Humiston victim heard another gunshot and saw her sister collapse on the floor.
She then claimed witnessing her brother enter her bedroom and shoot her once or twice, believing she was shot in both her hand and neck, and said she “immediately felt pain.”
She saw her brother stoop over the three bodies of her family members in the hall, checking to see if they were still alive. When her brother returned to her bedroom, she “closed her eyes, held her breath, and pretended to play dead as he stood next to her bed.”
Her brother left the room, and she could hear him talking on the phone upstairs, so she escaped via a “fire window” in her room and rushed to her neighbor’s house.
