Some Fresno, California residents will soon start getting monthly stimulus payments. In total, these qualified residents will get $6,000 through a new stimulus payment program.
The goal of stimulus payments is to help families who need money by giving them immediate financial relief. The payments are also meant to get people to spend money when they do not have much to spend.
California currently has the second highest cost-of-living
California is known for having a very high cost of living. Stacker’s research shows that California is one of the three most expensive places to live in the country, right behind Hawaii.
Washington, D.C. is right behind it. Hannah Jones, senior economic research analyst at Realtor.com, says, “There is a general desire to be in California, but there is not quite enough home supply.
This means that buying or renting a home in California is very expensive.”
Some of the biggest costs that people in California have to deal with are housing and rental costs. About 40% of people who own their own homes and 50% of people who rent spend more than 30% of their income on housing.
This means that a lot of families do not have much money left over to pay for other things, and a lot of them do not have any money left over to spend.
So, the new stimulus payment program is a big deal for the state because it will help people deal with the high cost of living.
Advancing Fresno County Guaranteed Income an important addition
The new program that pays people for stimulus projects is called the Advancing Fresno County Guaranteed Income. The goal of this program is to help people in Fresno.
Beneficiaries who meet the requirements will get $500 every month. The program began in July of this year, and for the next year, the money will be sent to 150 families in Fresno.
The Fresno Economic Opportunities Commission (Fresno EOC) started the program.
Fresno EOC data shows that there are 999,101 people living in Fresno County. Twenty-six percent of the people who live there are poor. This is more than 1.5 times the rate in California (11.8%) and the US (12.3%).
Setting up the Advancing Fresno County Guaranteed Income is meant to help families in this area who are struggling to make ends meet. After COVID-19, rental prices went up almost 30%, which was one of the highest increases in the country.
Emilia Reyes, CEO of Fresno Economic Opportunities, says, “We know families are strong and hardworking; all they need is a little help and support.
It is an honor to be able to start this small program and hopefully advocate for more, to help more families in our communities.”
Fresno EOC is committed to providing support for residents
The Fresno EOC has been a non-profit organization since 1965. They have over 30 programs that help people in Fresno. Part of their main goal is to reduce poverty, make people more self-sufficient, and make communities stronger.
Fresno’s community programs help with things like housing, education, senior care, job placement, energy conservation, prenatal nutrition education, preventive health care, and housing.
About 100,000 people who live in Fresno have looked to Fresno EOC as a sign of support for the past 50 years.
As of right now, Fresno EOC is working on their Strategic Plan for 2023–2026, which focuses on health and wellness, housing and stability, employment, food insecurity, community safety, and academic success.
In order to reduce poverty in the United States, nonprofits like Fresno EOC are very important. They do this by meeting the immediate needs of low-income individuals and families and also pushing for systemic change.
In addition to giving direct aid, many nonprofits work to fix the problems that make people poor, like unfair pay, limited schooling, and unemployment, by pushing for policies that support fair economic growth and social mobility.
In a country where government programs can not meet all the needs of poor people, nonprofits are very important for making society more fair and making sure that everyone has a chance to succeed.
