Early yesterday morning, the Alameda City Fire Department was called to the 1500 block of Clement Ave. to help put out a fire at Fortman Marina.
Around 11:45 a.m., firefighters arrived to find a boat and the dock next to it on fire. The fire was put out quickly by the team of two engines, one truck, one ambulance, one CARE unit, one fire boat, and one battalion chief. This kept nearby boats from being in danger.
Officials from the Alameda City Fire Department stated that there were no people on the boat when the fire started, and no one on the firefighting team was hurt. The Harbor Master was quickly told what was going on.
The US Coast Guard (USCG) and the National Response Corporation (NRC) were also told about possible measures to clean up the environment. Someone took video of the terrifying moments when smoke rose and flames leapt, giving a visual account of what happened.
The reason of the fire has not been made public yet, but investigations are still going on. Details about how the fire affected the environment are also still being worked on by the USCG and NRC.
