An Ohio sheriff is facing backlash over how he celebrated winning reelection.
Bruce Zuchowski beat Jon Barber in a close race to become sheriff of Portage County in northeast Ohio.
“Thank you to everyone who helped me!” Zuchowski put something on Facebook. Then he told his “haters” something with a mean meme.
Our news partners at WOIO say that the Portage County sheriff race got a lot of attention across the country this year after the current sheriff said some hurtful things about supporters of Vice President Kamala Harris.
After the social media post, the Portage County Board of Elections got dozens of complaints about people being scared to vote.
After the complaints, the U.S. Justice Department said in October that it would keep an eye on Election Day voting in Portage County.
If WOIO asked the sheriff’s office about any of these problems, Zuchowski has not replied, so the problems have not been fixed.
